Martin began as the Index School District administrator in 1995. He writes: "I believe in the prime directive; schools are for kids to learn in. Without kids there would be no schools. The focus must always be on children and learning first. My wife (a Principal in Monroe) and I raised three children. Between our children and their spouses account for four grandchildren and four of the adults are currently teaching. Education and learning run deep in my family. Small school districts are treated differently at the State level and I have helped lead the effort to improve education and opportunities in small districts, including Index School District, across the state. As a Biology teacher, I have always loved the remote communities and the outdoor activities that surround them. I am proud of my service to the Index community and school!"
